This bridge is listed as a Historic Monument. It is called "Louis XIII" in memory of the king's visit in 1629, when he laid siege to Privas to put an end to the Reformation.
The 12th century Pont Louis XIII is located on a very important communication route, linking Baix on the Rhône to the Ardèche mountains. Badly damaged by the fighting during the siege of Privas in 1629, King Louis XIII had it repaired, not out of generosity, but with the aim of improving all the roads leading to Privas; this, of course, was to allow his troops to pass through in the event of further revolts!
